About Me
I am a feature and travel writer based in Pittsburgh, PA. I My work appears in National Geographic Traveler, Hemispheres (the inflight magazine of United Airlines) and other airline magazines; in newspapers including the New York Times, Washington Post, International Herald-Tribune, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and USA Today; and online at National Geographic Traveler’s Intelligent Travel.
I'm a contributing writer at Pittsburgh Magazine and h, the quarterly magazine of the Heinz Endowments. Then there are my books: right now I'm finishing some contributions to National Geographic's Best of the World (2012). The 11th edition of Pennsylvania: Off the Beaten Path for Globe Pequot Press, my fifth edition of this quirky little guide, will hit the stands this spring. Other titles include Fun With the Family: Pennsylvania (Globe Pequot Press, seventh edition Fall 2009), and Pennsylvania’s Forbes Trail: Gateways and Getaways Along the Legendary Route From Philadelphia to Pittsburgh (Taylor Trade Press, May 2008) with Burton K. Kummerow and R. Scott Stephenson. I also contributed to Travelers Tales Prague and the Czech Republic: True Stories (Travelers Tales, March 2006).
I'm a member of the Society of American Travel Writers, and 2011 was a good travel year. I've just returned from southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia) and London, my favorite city. Check my Seen page for updates or follow me on Twitter.
